6 Ways To Get Your Body Beach-Ready

Essential Tips for Summer Skin Care and Wellness

The grass is getting greener, air is getting fresher, and you’re starting to get the summertime urge to go outside. But before you throw on the bathing suit and head to the pool, make sure you give your body a little TLC! These six tips for the summer will get your skin, body and mind ready for outdoor fun.

Scrub a Dub Dub

The harsh winds and cold temps can really dry out your skin, Body scrub and bowl with flowerscausing itching or rough, cracked patches. While exfoliating weekly in the shower can help hinder the damage, trying a deep exfoliating scrub at a spa can speed up the process by removing all the old, dead skin cells and expediting the growth of newer, healthier cells.

The best scrubs often have some combination of fruit seeds, nutshells or grounds, salt/sugar, grains and natural exfoliating beads, like jojoba. And don’t forget to moisturize often – dry skin can still occur in the summer!

Makeup Reboot

The last thing you want to do after you exfoliate is put on old makeup. Like everything else, makeup has a shelf life. If it’s been a couple years since you bought a new foundation – or worse, you can’t even remember when the last time you purchased makeup was – it’s time to refresh your collection.

We recommend products that are non-comedogenic, cruelty-free, and preferably pure mineral. Brands such as La Bella Donna, carried in wellness spas, fit the bill perfectly. If you struggle with picking foundation shades or need to go darker for your tan, a trained makeup artist is always happy to help. And remember to fully remove your makeup before going to bed using clinical skincare products, such as Kerstin Florian or Hydropeptide. Welcome, beautiful new skin!

Adios, Unwanted Hair

It’s a topic nobody loves to talk about, but everyone likes to be soft & smooth for those cute sundresses in the closet begging to be worn. Chances are, if you go a little longer in between waxes or switch to shaving in the winter, you’re going to have a harder time rebounding – especially for thick, coarse hair.

Before you go in for your first wax of the season, make sure to have at least 1/8 – 1/4 inch of growth. This will make it easier for the wax to grab hold of the hair and drastically reduce how long you’re stuck on that bed! Your esthetician will provide you with aftercare and advise how long to wait based on your hair type. Remember – everyone is different!

With the holiday season and warm, comfort foods abound (Hi, pasta!), winter isn’t the easiest season to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Whether you’ve slacked off a little (Don’t worry – it happens to the best of us) or have done a good job maintaining (Yay, you!), hitting the gym for a couple extra sessions a week can do your mind and body some good.

If you’re just starting out, try the three and two method: three days of cardio, two days of weight training. There are so many options out there now that you can take the time to find activities that are fun for you: cycling, walking, jogging, yoga, Pilates, swimming, weight lifting, Zumba, etc. You’re much more likely to stick to a plan that you enjoy, so start experimenting!

After all that working out, who wouldn’t want a nice, relaxing massage session? Is that even a serious question? Book yourself a tension relieving Swedish massage, or opt for a deep tissue to get more targeted relief from all that built up stress or muscle soreness. If you’re not a touchy-feely kind of person, consider trying Reiki instead – a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that involves very little touching. It’s a #WinWin.

Treat Yourself

Manicures and pedicures…need we say more? Nothing gives a jolt to the self-esteem like a good mani-pedi. With bright new colors added for the summer collections, now’s the time to try something new!

For a long-lasting mani, try out the no-chip Shellac polish. No-chip manicures can last anywhere from 2-3 weeks – perfect for your busy schedule and outlasting the pool.
